Purpose, vision, values

Our Purpose
Our purpose is to inspire, engage and empower local people to create a better place for living and working by establishing and maintaining a native bush corridor from the Cooks River to Iron Cove to protect and enhance biodiversity, promote sustainability and strengthen community bonds.

Our Vision
For the corridor and the district
  • Our vision is for a network of bushcare sites stretching from the Cooks River to Iron
  • Cove that provides habitat and pathways for native animals to roam, especially the endangered Long-nosed Bandicoot.
  • Our vision for the network includes native plantings in local parks, public lands and in yards of willing residents to enhance the region’s biodiversity, especially species of the Sydney Turpentine-Ironbark Forest.
  • Our vision is of a more beautiful inner west where people and animals can find refuge in urban bush havens.

For the group
  • Our vision is for an inspired, diverse and inclusive group whose members are supported by a passionate committee.
  • Our vision is for members to work safely and to be well trained and equipped. We acknowledge different people have different skills, so we will create opportunities for people to contribute in a variety of ways.
  • Our vision is for members to feel a sense of pride in and ownership of the sites, and for members to be valued and have opportunities to celebrate their achievements.
Values
Some of the values that inform our work and our dealings with others include:

  • Welcoming: We welcome everyone who shares our vision.
  • Fun: We have fun while striving to realise our vision and reach our goals.
  • Passionate: We are passionate about biodiversity and about achieving our group’s vision for a bush corridor.
  • Determined: We are determined to achieve our vision.
  • Respectful: We deal fairly, honesty and respectfully with others.
  • Empowering: We help members become skilled and knowledgeable by providing training and encouraging members to share what they know with each other.
  • Safety conscious: The safety of members is very important to us so we adopt safe work practices and do not ask volunteers to do anything they do not feel comfortable about or have been trained to do.
