Why volunteer?
The best thing about bushcare is that it lets people connect – with nature, with other people and with their local community. Here are some other benefits:

  • It’s free. No joining fees, no fuss.
  • It’s fun. Sounds weird but it’s true. Sometimes it’s just nice to be outside in nature with other people or tucked away weeding in a corner of a site, lost in your own thoughts.
  • It’s social. There’s always time for morning tea and a chat, and no one really cares what your day job is.
  • It makes your neighbourhood more beautiful.
  • It brings back native animals, especially the birds.
  • We’ll train you – it’s easy.
  • And it’s guilt free. You can come as often as you like – no one will make you feel guilty if you haven’t turned up for six months. We’re just happy to have you along whenever you can find the time.
Chose a job that suits you
There’s lots of ways you can help. Most people just like to pull out weeds for a few hours, check out how the plants are growing and see what’s flowering, but there are lots of other things you can do. Here are the main ones, but we are open to suggestions.

  • Help out at working bees, weeding and planting.
  • Adopt a site and join a weeding roster.
  • Collect local seed and grow tube stock for planting.
  • Plant local natives in your yard at home.
  • Join the committee.
  • Help out with graphic design, marketing, organise talks, prepare information sheets, and many other back-of-house stuff that keeps the group going.
  • Make up a job for yourself.
How to get involved
Email our secretary Deb Auchinachie at iweg@greenway.org, call her on 0410 762 599, or just turn up at one of the working bees and you can start straight away.
